The wildlife and birdlife of Madagascar is unique and the island has the highest concentration of endemic species per area of any other country.

Of the 204 species of breeding species of birds, nearly 60% are endemic to the region.
Over 50 species of lemur to be found.
117 native species of mammals, of which over 90% are endemic (bats representing the small percentage which are found elsewhere).
